Side Door Media Services provides closed-captioning and subtitling services
for television and video programming across a broad spectrum of platforms.
Services
Closed-Captioning
Closed captions provide access to television viewers who are deaf or hard-of-hearing, as well as those who are learning to read, are learning English as a second language, or find themselves in noisy environments like bars, gyms, or airports. Activated through the user’s TV remote or on-screen menu, closed captions “open” the program’s vital audio information, like dialogue, narration, song lyrics, and sound effects. Side Door Media Services can provide closed-captions in a format compatible with your closed-captioning data encoding platform. For federal government agencies, closed captions can bring your video or multimedia production into compliance with Section 508 of The Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
Subtitling
Subtitles are displayed over video as proportionally spaced characters, typically in white, with a thin black border or drop shadow to make them stand out against a light background. They can be a permanent, or “burned in,” part of the video, or they can be user-activated through the menu of a DVD or Blu-ray player. Subtitles provide foreign language translations of the program’s content or allow access for deaf and hard-of-hearing viewers. Side Door Media Services can provide subtitles compatible with the most popular DVD and Blu-ray authoring platforms, as well as Final Cut Pro and Avid DS.
Multimedia
Side Door Media Services can provide subtitling and captioning services and files compatible with a wide array of multimedia platforms, including Apple Quicktime, Windows Media Player, DFXP, YouTube, and even PowerPoint. We can also convert existing files to other subtitling formats.
